What is a Patient Participation Group (PPG) and why is it important?

Cowley Road Medical Practice has a PPG that is a group of patients who meet regularly to give feedback and make suggestions on their experience. Feedback is very important to GP practices. Whilst we cannot get involved with clinical matters we do highlight operational issues. Practice staff then consider our comments and may make changes as a result. One of the doctors, the practice manager and some reception staff are already members of the group so your comments are taken seriously by the practice staff.

Join our PPG

Anyone can join the PPG and we are always looking for new members. Meetings take around an hour and are held via Microsoft Teams. They are currently held on Wednesday mornings but this can be changed to suit the membership. Please contact [email protected] or ask at reception for more information or if you would like to join us.

What is a Primary Care Network (PCN) and how will it affect your treatment?

PCNs are a few group practices that collaborate to:

  • Offer more coordinated care
  • Provide access to a bigger range of health care professionals and services

The practices in our PCN are:

  • Cowley Road Medical Practice
  • Bartlemas
  • St Bartholomew
  • St Clements

Vaccination clinics are an example of collaboration as patients from all four practices are being vaccinated against Covid-19 at Bartlemas surgery with volunteers from all four practices helping with the clinics.

Patient Access

In normal times Patient Access (https://www.patientaccess.com/) allows you to book an appointment as well as request repeat prescriptions on-line. These services are currently restricted due to Covid-19 but will, hopefully, resume shortly.

How to order your Repeat Prescriptions

If you are on regular medication and need a further supply, you can renew your prescription in any of the following ways:

  • Via email: [email protected]
    • Please include the following:
      • Name
      • Date of Birth
      • Name of the items required and quantity
      • Name and address of the pharmacy you would like them sent to
  • If you have no access to email, we have some slips available to fill in outside of the practice.

Please do not request items unless you only have a supply for 7 days remaining. If we issue medication early, it can lead to shortages for people that need it urgently. If you do require medication early due to loss or holiday commitments – please include this on your request.

Ordering repeat prescriptions – 20 Sept 2021

If you would like to order a repeat prescription, please do so by emailing your request to the practice on [email protected]. Alternatively, please speak to your pharmacist who will be able to make the request for you. If you are not sure about your list of medications, please look at the paper that comes with your medication – the list will be there. Your pharmacist will also be able to give you a list. Patients are no longer able to order repeat prescriptions directly through the website. This is a patient safety measure, to make sure that all requests are properly checked before the medication is authorised. We do not accept requests by telephone, again, for reasons of patient safety

 

Think COVID! – 20 Sept 2021

Every day we receive a significant number of calls from patients experiencing cough symptoms or fever who are not thinking that they have COVID because their symptoms are not severe. Unlike what may come across in the news and media, most people with COVID will have mild or moderate symptoms. So please, if you have a new cough or fever, no matter how mild, or a loss in your sense of taste or smell, think COVID, isolate at home and arrange a COVID test. You may have only one of those symptoms – for example, just a fever, and still have COVID.

Coronavirus vaccination – 20 Sept 2021

We are receiving many telephone queries about coronavirus vaccinations. These are being offered for residents of Oxford city in a number of sites across the city, rather than at individual practices. We do not have vaccines at the surgery. Our patients will be invited to receive a vaccine in line with a priority list set out by the national body responsible for vaccination. We cannot change the order. Please be patient – you will receive your invitation in due course when it is your turn.

 

Coronavirus vaccination for health care staff and social care workers – 20 Sept 2021

If you are a health care worker and your employer has not already made arrangements for you to receive a COVID vaccine, please email your details to [email protected] with details of your role, and your employer. This information will be coded and passed to the relevant bodies who are organising vaccines for staff.

 

COVID self-isolation rules – 20 Sept 2021

If you have symptoms of COVID, you should start to self-isolate and arrange for a test. You should remain in self-isolation from the day your symptoms started and the next 10 full days. Your household members must also self-isolate for 10 days from the start of your symptoms. They should not get a test unless they have symptoms. A negative test during their period of isolation does not mean that your contacts can return to work or normal activities. If you still feel unwell at the end of 10 days, you should seek medical advice, and not return to work. You may return to work if your only symptoms are cough or loss of sense of smell.
