Electronic Repeat Dispensing

A new way to get your regular prescriptions

If you or someone you care for uses the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from using the NHS Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) service.

This means you won’t have to re-order or collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP practice every time you need more medicine.

Step 1

Talk to your GP or the person who prescribes your medicines and ask them if you can use Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD). Your prescriber will usually be your doctor or practice nurse.

If your prescriber thinks that you could use eRD for your regular medicines, they will ask you for permission to share information about your treatment with your pharmacist. This will help your pharmacist to give your prescriber feedback about your treatment and provide you with useful advice.

Your GP or prescriber will then authorise a number of eRD prescriptions. This will be based on your circumstances and clinical need. These eRD prescriptions will then be supplied by your pharmacy at regular intervals.

Step 2

Collect your first eRD prescription from your pharmacy.

You can choose any pharmacy that dispenses NHS prescriptions.

Step 3

Next time you need more medicines, go back to your pharmacy.

Before dispensing the next issue of your prescription, your pharmacy will ask you the following questions:

  • Have you seen any health professionals (GP, nurse or hospital doctor), since your last repeat prescription was supplied?
  • Have you recently started taking any new medicines – either on prescription or that you have bought over the counter?
  • Have you been having any problems with your medication or experiencing any side effects?
  • Are there any items on your repeat prescription that you don’t need this month?

If you don’t need all of the medicines on your prescription, let the pharmacy staff know, so that they only supply the medicines you need. This will help to reduce waste and save the NHS money.

If you have any questions about your medicines, just ask at the pharmacy; they’ll be happy to help you.

Step 4

When your pharmacy supplies your prescription, they will advise you to contact your GP practice to arrange for your medication to be reviewed and if it is clinically appropriate to issue another eRD prescription.

Your doctor or practice nurse may want you to make an appointment to see them before they will authorise more eRD prescriptions.

Ordering repeat prescriptions – 21 June 2021

If you would like to order a repeat prescription, please do so by emailing your request to the practice on [email protected]. Alternatively, please speak to your pharmacist who will be able to make the request for you. If you are not sure about your list of medications, please look at the paper that comes with your medication – the list will be there. Your pharmacist will also be able to give you a list. Patients are no longer able to order repeat prescriptions directly through the website. This is a patient safety measure, to make sure that all requests are properly checked before the medication is authorised. We do not accept requests by telephone, again, for reasons of patient safety

 

Think COVID! – 21 June 2021

Every day we receive a significant number of calls from patients experiencing cough symptoms or fever who are not thinking that they have COVID because their symptoms are not severe. Unlike what may come across in the news and media, most people with COVID will have mild or moderate symptoms. So please, if you have a new cough or fever, no matter how mild, or a loss in your sense of taste or smell, think COVID, isolate at home and arrange a COVID test. You may have only one of those symptoms – for example, just a fever, and still have COVID.

Coronavirus vaccination – 21 June 2021

We are receiving many telephone queries about coronavirus vaccinations. These are being offered for residents of Oxford city in a number of sites across the city, rather than at individual practices. We do not have vaccines at the surgery. Our patients will be invited to receive a vaccine in line with a priority list set out by the national body responsible for vaccination. We cannot change the order. Please be patient – you will receive your invitation in due course when it is your turn.

 

Coronavirus vaccination for health care staff and social care workers – 21 June 2021

If you are a health care worker and your employer has not already made arrangements for you to receive a COVID vaccine, please email your details to [email protected] with details of your role, and your employer. This information will be coded and passed to the relevant bodies who are organising vaccines for staff.

 

COVID self-isolation rules – 21 June 2021

If you have symptoms of COVID, you should start to self-isolate and arrange for a test. You should remain in self-isolation from the day your symptoms started and the next 10 full days. Your household members must also self-isolate for 10 days from the start of your symptoms. They should not get a test unless they have symptoms. A negative test during their period of isolation does not mean that your contacts can return to work or normal activities. If you still feel unwell at the end of 10 days, you should seek medical advice, and not return to work. You may return to work if your only symptoms are cough or loss of sense of smell.
